Join us in building a future where every woman and girl has the resources, knowledge, and support to reach their full potential.
Fursa Foundation is a community-based organization founded by young medical doctors in Mwanza, Tanzania, We are dedicated to empowering adolescents, young women, and underserved communities through initiatives that promote menstrual hygiene, women’s entrepreneurship, and gender equality.
Inspired by the challenges faced by women and girls in rural Tanzania, a group of young doctors decided to take action.
We witnessed firsthand how the lack of access to menstrual hygiene products, limited economic opportunities, and the prevalence of gender-based violence were holding back women and girls from reaching their full potential.
With a shared vision of creating a healthier, more equitable society, we established Fursa Foundation to address these challenges head-on.
Today, we’re proud to be making a difference in the lives of thousands of women and girls across Tanzania, one step at a time.
At Fursa Foundation, we focus on creating sustainable change through three core programs that address the most pressing challenges faced by women and girls in Tanzania.
Access to safe, affordable menstrual hygiene products remains a significant challenge for many young women and girls in Tanzania, especially in rural communities.
Through our WASH Program, we provide high-quality, reusable sanitary pads, known as ‘Fursa Pads,’ along with comprehensive menstrual hygiene education. We work closely with schools, healthcare providers, and community leaders to ensure that every girl has the knowledge and resources to manage her period with dignity
We believe that empowering women with the right skills and knowledge is key to creating lasting change. Our Women Empowerment Program offers training in entrepreneurship, digital literacy, and financial management, enabling young mothers and women to start their own businesses or secure employment.
By providing mentorship, resources, and practical skills training, we’re helping women gain confidence, become self-reliant, and contribute positively to their communities.
Gender-based violence remains a critical issue in Tanzania, affecting the health, safety, and future of women and girls. Our Ending GBV Program works with communities to raise awareness, promote respectful relationships, and advocate for women’s rights.
Through workshops, youth engagement programs, and collaboration with local authorities, we are educating communities on the importance of gender equality and creating safe spaces for survivors to seek help and support.
Together with our supporters, we’ve been able to make a significant impact in the lives of women and girls across Tanzania. Here’s a glimpse of what we’ve achieved so far

Hearing directly from those we’ve impacted is one of the most powerful ways to understand the difference we’re making.
“Fursa Foundation’s reusable pads have made it possible for me to attend school without worrying. Now, I can focus on my education and participate in class with confidence. I no longer feel embarrassed or anxious during my period, and I know that I’m supported.”
